Jason James Pope, from Teignmouth in Devon, England was the oldest of three children and the only one of the four missing expatriates who wasn’t married. He was only 24 at the time of the attack and, like Doug, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had joined Branch Energy six months prior, after discovering the job on the internet. Most of his first three-month contract had been spent mapping and surveying old Portuguese diamond areas in the Menongue area in south-east Angola, liaising with villagers and elements of UNITA to guide him through the mined areas. Concerned that trouble was brewing between UNITA and the MPLA in the area, management had moved him to Yetwene which had been operational since July. Jason had worked all over the world to further his career in geology.
